Hands on Cooking
We Cook Together
We Eat Together
A Traditional Welcome
Your experience begins the moment you arrive at our home.
Welcomed with fresh flower garlands, teeka, and aarti
A gentle explanation of each ritual observe or participate, as you’re comfortable
Settle in with homemade masala chai and fresh pakoras A relaxed start to ask questions, chat, and feel at home
Understanding Indian Spices
We begin by getting comfortable in the kitchen
Introductions and a quick understanding of your cooking experience and interests
No prior knowledge of Indian food required
A hands-on, curiosity-led approach not about perfection
Before cooking begins, we explore the foundation of Indian cuisine:
Learn about everyday Indian spices through smell, touch, and taste
Understand where they come from and how they are used in home cooking
Focus on recognising flavours rather than memorising names
Build confidence before stepping into the cooking process
Cooking Together Step By Step
We then begin cooking together, at an easy, natural pace.
Learn core techniques like chopping, tempering spices, slow cooking, and tasting as you go
Clear explanations with space to ask questions throughout
A relaxed, home-style experience not a formal class or professional setup
What we cook together:
Two main course dishes, chosen from our family favourites (or let us know in advance if there’s something specific you’d like to learn)
Fresh chapatis (Indian flatbreads) made completely from scratch, kneading the dough, rolling by hand, and cooking them on the stove
By the time the meal is ready, you’ll understand the rhythm and care behind Indian home cooking simple, intuitive, and deeply satisfying
Sharing The Meal
Once the cooking is complete, we sit down together to eat. Learn how Indian meals are typically enjoyed and balanced
Guidance on eating with hands or cutlery comfort always comes first
Time to eat slowly, talk, and reflect on what you’ve cooked
By the end of the experience, you leave with recipes, confidence, and a deeper understanding of Indian food and spices as they are truly lived at home.
